I'm wondering why KLM stick with the MD-11s and the others didn't? What made it a success with them? It seems they're one of the few airlines who really maximized the MD-11s life span. Are there any other major passenger operators which liked their MD-11s?

The MD-11s are now being replaced by 777-200ERs, wherein the latter can fly longer and is more fuel efficient than the former. Surprises me that they still operate MD-11s. Even FEDEX is replacing all its MD-11s with 777-200Fs. Maybe they are able to use it on secondary medium range routes. Or they are waiting for them to hit its maximum operating hours.

There are still plenty of MD-11s in service with FedEx, but soon, this will all be gone. They are slowly being replaced by more efficient 777-200Fs. Seems like the 777 are putting plenty of commercial aircrafts out of service, the A340s, MD-11s, and even its bigger brother the 747-400.
